Barrington Hills is a village located approximately 40 miles northwest of Chicago, incorporated in 1957. The village spans approximately 29 square miles across four counties — Cook, Kane, McHenry, and Lake. A 5-acre minimum zoning restriction has been in effect on new construction since 1963, preserving the area's equestrian heritage and estate properties.
Beginning around 1900, Chicago business executives purchased farmland and created large estates in the area. The Barrington Hills Country Club, with its eighteen-hole golf course, was established in 1921 on 200 acres of land donated by early founders. The village includes significant historical structures such as the Barrington Center Church (built 1853) and St. John Nepomucene Chapel (completed 1873).
