Genoa City is a village spanning Kenosha and Walworth counties in southeastern Wisconsin, located 43 miles south-southwest of Milwaukee on the Illinois border. James Dickerson platted the original settlement in 1850 on land he had purchased from the government in 1841. The village was first incorporated on October 15, 1901, under the name Genoa Junction, and was renamed Genoa City on January 24, 1924. The settlement was named after Genoa, New York, which was in turn named after Genoa, Italy.
The television series The Young and the Restless is set in a fictionalized version of Genoa City; the show's creators had a vacation home in Lake Geneva and passed through the village when visiting.
