Palatine is a village spanning Cook and Lake counties, Illinois, occupying 14.28 square miles with a 2020 population of 67,908. The Village of Palatine was founded in 1866 around a station on the Chicago and North Western Railway. The first European-American settler in the area is generally considered to be George Ela, who built a log cabin in the area now called Deer Grove following the Black Hawk War.
