Schaumburg is a village spanning Cook and DuPage counties, Illinois, located approximately 26 miles northwest of downtown Chicago. The 2020 census recorded a population of 78,723, making Schaumburg the most populous incorporated village in the United States. The community was incorporated on March 7, 1956. Early German settlers from Schaumburg-Lippe named the township, and by 1870 the region had become predominantly German.
Suburban growth accelerated following the 1955 construction of O'Hare International Airport and the 1956 opening of the Northwest Tollway. Woodfield Mall opened in 1971. Major employers in the village include Zurich North America and Motorola Solutions. The Olde Schaumburg Centre preserves a historic district within the village.
