Fox Lake is a village spanning Lake and McHenry counties, Illinois, located approximately 50 miles north of Chicago. The village was incorporated on December 15, 1906, and certified by the state on April 13, 1907.
The community sits among the Chain O'Lakes system, with the village center positioned on the east shore of Pistakee Lake and the south shores of Nippersink Lake and Fox Lake. These connected waterways form part of a recreational water system that drains southwest toward the Illinois River. At its early-20th-century peak as a summer resort, the area hosted 50 hotels and 2,000 cottages.
