Libertyville is a village in Lake County, Illinois, located approximately 40 miles north of Chicago. Settlement began in 1835 when George Vardin became the first recorded non-indigenous resident. The village was officially incorporated in 1882, following the arrival of a Milwaukee Road train spur in 1881. After a major fire destroyed the downtown in 1895, the village board mandated that reconstruction use brick.

Notable Libertyville landmarks include the Cook Mansion, built in 1879 and now operating as a museum, and St. Sava Serbian Orthodox Monastery, which housed the remains of Peter II of Yugoslavia from 1970 until 2013. Major employers in the village include Advocate Condell Medical Center and Hollister Incorporated.
